Speech by Stephen Hammond planned for October road transport event

Later this month, MP Stephen Hammond is set to give a speech as part of the upcoming Commercial Vehicle Forum.

The Under secretary of state for transport is going to make his address to the road transport sector’s top executives at the British Museum.

Set up in 2012 the by the Road Haulage Association (RHA), Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) and Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), this year’s forum is set to include a number of other speakers, too.

As well as Mr Hammond, who will appear as a keynote speaker, the senior traffic commissioner for Great Britain, Beverley Bell, is set to be on-hand as a panelist, as are Financial Times automotive writer Henry Foy, one-time WH Smith UK transport manager and Mothercare Group head of UK logistics, David Weller.

The occasion will feature debate about key issues in the road transport industry and is set to take its inspiration from Question Time, letting leaders of industry and people who form opinions discuss central issues impacting this sector.

It will look at specific changes and challenges that are affecting companies working in road transport, as well as ideas about approaching sustainability issues, bringing in technology and remaining compliant.

Kicking off at 14:00 BST it’s also going to be looking at ways a healthy road transport industry is crucial where the economy of the United Kingdom is concerned.

A second debate session will focus in on the topic of how policies from government, alterations to the commercial environment, shortages of skills and challenges where funding is concerned are making a difference when it comes to how able to road transport sector is to give economic recovery a boost, and lead European change.

It comes after the RTA gave word that a September 18th Compliance Conference it had organised with the support of Volvo Trucks had sold out.
