My Work Experience at Cast UK - Lindsey Wong
First impressions
I was so nervous but also excited to do my work experience in Cast UK, going to a new environment and learning new skills in business & marketing. The whole office is covered in orange colour as they call themselves #TeamOrange, which makes for a very fun and bright workplace. I was sure I will gain a lot of skills this week!
Day 1
Starting at 10:00 Monday morning, I was welcomed by Wayne enthusiastically from the moment I walked in. He introduced me to everyone, and they were all very nice and welcoming. I was then given a tour of the office and surrounding area. To start with, I had a brand workshop with Kerry (Head of Marketing) which allowed me to understand the company’s personality, tone of voice and learn how marketing works in general. The main lesson I have learnt is never be afraid to ask questions and never overpromise. After that, my first task was to review current social channels and suggest any improvements that can be made. In the afternoon, I helped to update the marketing leads lists using filtered Bullhorn searches and identifying any missing ones.
Day 2
On the second day, I was assigned two tasks - social media research and graphic post creation. I started with researching relevant industry articles in both UK & USA on the topics of supply chain, logistics, procurement and HR. Then I learned to schedule social posts using eClincher software to be shared throughout this week & next. In the afternoon, I was taught to use Canva to make graphic posts. I found this creative work very interesting and fun.
Day 3
The third day was the busiest day of my week. I started to copy over all project actions moving them from one Trello board to another, then downloaded all linked documents to make sure the files are saved properly. Then, I went back to Canva to post the job alerts I made the previous day. After that, I started to use the ‘duplicate checker’ to remove duplicate records saved in Cast’s CRM, Bullhorn. This was such a challenging task! There were so many steps and each of them are all very important. I had to double-check every time before I pressed any button. The process is irreversible which made it a little stressful!
Day 4
Happy Friday and luckily it is National Employee Appreciation Day!!! Once a year and I had the chance to be involved with Team Orange’s celebrations. The working day started a little earlier at 8:00 am (for an early finish at 5:00 pm) and we had breakfast together! (The mango passionfruit yogurt was amazing) Then I started writing this blog. For the past few days, Kerry has been highlighting to me how having a LinkedIn profile is important for future networking. We took some professional headshots for me to use generally and then afterwards I was helped to set up a new LinkedIn profile.
Overall
I am very grateful to have had work experience at Cast UK. I have enjoyed it a lot. This is such a unique and precious experience as it’s been my first chance to look into the real world of work. I’m sad to leave here and these lovely people. Thank you so much to all everyone at Cast UK for providing this wonderful experience in a fantastic environment.
