GDP growth

This year, GDP is expected to increase by 8.2%, followed by a 6.1% rise in 2022. As a result, the UK will return to pre-pandemic GDP levels, which is a year earlier than originally predicted. It seems the economy is on the up - not just in the UK. A recovery in global trade is predicted, with 6.3% growth projected for 2021, and 4.9% for 2022. This means more jobs will become available - and the salaries will be higher than you think.

Salary increase

Although we anticipated a salary slump at the beginning of the year when we released our Salary & Benefits Guide 2021, it appears the opposite has happened. Statistics show that average pay rose by 7.4% in Q2 of 2021. So, job hunting could be a real opportunity to land a new role and earn more money - especially because it's currently a candidate-short market.

Recruitment difficulties

This lack of candidates is a key reason behind the salary growth. See, the right talent is crucial - in fact, it's what can lead a business to success. But finding it is extremely difficult. Qualifications and experience are no longer enough; applicants need the ability to handle a rapidly changing landscape. Especially in industries like warehousing & distribution or supply chain, where there was already a predicted employee shortage before Brexit complicated the issue further.
