Dan is now part of our Logistics team, recruiting for logistics roles within all of our specialist industries across the South of the UK. Find out more about Dan’s career move to the recruitment industry and what benefit his previous industry knowledge has provided.
1. What attracted you to a career change to the recruitment industry?
I’d been in the logistics industry for about 7 years and I just fancied something a bit different. I still wanted to use the skills that I had from the logistics industry but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. So, I registered with Cast UK as a candidate and I came in to the office for a chat. From the outset I really impressed with their operation and what they had to say about the business and that kind of lead me down this route when they suggested a career in recruitment and I have never looked back!
2. How did you find the transition from industry to a career in recruitment?
It’s really different, that’s the first thing I would say. I probably thought it was going to be a bit easier than it was, the change was quite a bit different in terms of the activity on a day-to-day basis. The customer service element is still very much there and in addition to that, the pride of giving the best services possible really is still there.
3. What has been your biggest success in recruitment so far?
Obviously placing candidates into roles is great but I think the biggest success for me is when you get feedback 3 or 4 months down the line from a candidates and from a client that it’s really been the right decision for both parties. When the candidate is really enjoying what they’re doing now I would say that’s one of the most rewarding parts of the job.
4. How would you describe our working environment?
The working environment at Cast UK is very much a fun office. We’re an office that generally gets on with our work but we have fun at the same time, we have a lot of team nights out and things like that which I think is great outside of the office. But inside the office it’s a very fun and friendly environment and everyone is genuinely nice here.
5. How useful has your industry knowledge and experience been in your new career?
It’s been really useful. On a daily basis speaking to candidates and clients you can generally get a really good understanding of what they’re looking for from a client point view. Also, from a candidate point of view it makes it much easier to understand what they do on a daily basis but also where they are looking to go in terms of career progression. Having a view of the job market and industry as a whole, having worked in it myself it gives a clear picture of where people may be able to go and what they might be able to do in the future.
6. What advice would you give to any industry professional considering a career in recruitment?
I think recruitment is a great change and can be really brilliant, but I would say there are a few things to think about when considering a career in recruitment. I would say, number one, you can get rewarding for what you do here so the work that you put in generates those financial rewards. Number two, you’re probably going to learn a lot of new skills; I’ve learnt a great deal while I’ve been here and you’re probably going to learn more new skills than you may in your existing job because you’re going down a different route. Number 3, you’re probably going to have a lot of fun doing it, this is a very fun job.
7. Finally, what do you enjoy the most about working at Cast UK?
I think everyone has said this but it’s got to be the people. The people at Cast UK are really great and they are what make the business who we are. To watch Dan's video interview, visit our Youtube Channel here:
