Tessa joined Cast UK from a 5-year career in Fashion Buying in the retail industry with a Post Graduate Certificate in Buying and Merchandising. Tessa is a consultant on our Purchasing and Supply Chain team and has been as Cast UK for 3 months now, recruiting for Buying and Merchandising roles in the Retail and Wholesale sectors across the UK. We spoke to Tessa to find out why she chose a career move to the recruitment industry and what benefit her industry knowledge has provided.
1. What attracted you to a career change to the recruitment industry?
I wanted to work in an industry where I was rewarded for my hard work but I also wanted to make sure that I was in a role where I could use my relevant experience from my past in Buying.
2. How did you find the transition from industry to a career in recruitment?
I actually found it a lot easier than I first expected. I really enjoy working with candidates who want to be in the Buying industry than actually being in the industry myself.
3. How useful has your industry knowledge and experience been in your new career?
It’s been very useful! I am able to understand the requirements of the role that I'm recruiting for and I’m also able to understand what the client’s needs are with regards to the culture, the business and the candidate fit that they are looking for.
4. What has been your biggest success in recruitment so far?
My biggest success has been meeting clients and working with clients that Cast UK had not worked with previously to me joining the business.
5. How would you describe our working environment?
The working environment is great; everyone gets on really well with each other and I think it’s very much a 'work-hard, play-hard' kind of environment.
6. What is the most rewarding aspect of the job?
I would say getting someone a new job and then hearing about how happy they are in their role further down the line.
7. What advice would you give to any industry professional considering a career in recruitment?
I would say give it a try! If someone had said to me a year ago that I would be working in recruitment I would not have expected to be at all, but it makes a lot of sense to me now. I can really utilise my past experience of working in Buying and use that to work to my advantage with candidates and clients and put people in those jobs that I was working in myself previously!
