Dan and Gary conquer the 'The Bog of Doom' to raise valuable funds for charity

We’ve always said that Cast UK team members are committed to going the extra mile, but Dan Rowe and Gary Robinson took it one step further by completing HellRunner this weekend, a 13 mile adventure in Delamere Forest, billed as ‘the toughest half marathon Mother Nature will deliver.’
Account manager Dan and sales director Gary were game enough to sign up for the race in a bid to raise money for charities very close to Dan’s heart – Pendleside Hospice and The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust. Taking part in this gruelling event was an opportunity to recognise the support Dan’s family has received from the hospice over the years, given that both his wife’s grandfathers passed away there. He was also keen to support the incredible work of The Walton Centre in helping his mum to recover from two aneurysms. When asked to describe the experience of completing HellRunner, which involves a series of methane-infused bogs as well as a shiver-inducing 200m lake, Dan exclaimed it was “Brutal, relentless and exhausting” though barely hesitated when asked if he will sign up again next year. Commenting on this, Dan said: “To say it was challenging would be an understatement. With bogs nick-named the likes of ‘Lucifer’s Lido’ it was never going to be an easy ride but to be chest high in congealed, foul-smelling mud was an experience I won’t easily forget. I was pretty chuffed for completing it but reckon I could shave some time off next year!” With more than £300 already totted up as a result of the race, the funds will help to support others requiring specialist care.
