Cloud adoption is transforming British business

Logistics service providers (LSPs) are turning to cloud-computing systems to offer up-to-date solutions. In a rapidly evolving technological world, the cloud is transforming the way the world does business. Online-hosted services have revolutionised company operations, ranging from accountancy needs to data storage and customer transactions. The flexibility andscalability of the new technology is making it especially appealing to larger corporations, who have already become reliant on the cloud. LSPs are attempting to keep pace with the trend, but have raised concerns about security and system control. What some LSPs don’t realise is that the cloud is often more secure than their own operations, as private cloud providers use security officials to constantly patrol operations and make sure sensitive information does not fall into the wrong hands. Logistics operations have much to gain from cloud uptake, but even more to lose if they don’t invest great care and research into adopting the new technology. Failure to prepare for unexpected crises or security risks associated with data migration could cost a logistics company everything. LSPs should carefully analyse how cloud adoption will affect technical, security and data governance before making the switch. A strategic business plan should anticipate tactical challenges that will arise through software and application adoption. Once the shift happens, however, LSPs will benefit from the countless advantages of cloud computing, including cost savings, versatility, scalability and accessibility. In a recent survey conducted by Fasthosts, 70 per cent of respondents said the cloud plays an important role in business growth – therefore LSPs, who cater to some of the largest corporations in the UK, have much to gain from adoption of the revolutionary technology. Another poll by TNS and CSC showed that nearly half of businesses rate accessibility as the primary advantage of cloud adoption. Online hosting of company apps, files, data and programs can take a run-of-the-mill company and transform it into an up-to-the-minute, trend-setting mobile company. The cloud is not only transforming the way Britain does business, it’s revolutionising the supply chain and logistics, too – fundamental elements of enterprises across the UK.
