The skills required
The indirect purchasing manager will be constantly analysing figures to seek out economies, so great analytical skills will be required to make the job work. Much of this part of the job will be carried out using specialist software solutions, so an above average aptitude with a range of popular accounting and procurement solutions will be advantageous. There will also be a good deal of report-writing to keep head office informed of the state of play, so good communication skills and word processing ability will be highly valued.
If the indirect purchasing manager is in charge of a department, people management skills will be required, preferably with a proven track record of managing a team of people. On the other hand, if the manager is himself or herself in charge of the whole operation, they will need to be a motivated self-starter, able to do the job effectively with minimal contact with head office.

The majority of the city, and all of the walled area, is situated in a natural semi-moat formed by the River Dee. Although pleasure trips go along the Dee, it isn’t navigable in and out of the city, but throughout history canals, railways and roads have connected the city with Cheshire, the Wirral Peninsula, North Wales and Wrexham. Chester is at the end of the M56 and M53 which enter its north side, and southwards it is connected by major A-roads.
Despite its somewhat gentrified appearance and affluent populace, Chester does have a relatively strong industrial heritage, although the main sources of income and employment nowadays are retail, tourism, education and government. However, the economically active population with a huge demand for goods and services does mean that Chester has a thriving logistics, supply chain and procurement sector. For this reason, it is a good place to find Indirect Purchasing Manager work.
