A strong track record of managing financial budgets, vendors and contracts will be required, along with advanced strategic and operational facilities and property management skills.

Both Isles are connected to the mainland by ferries, to Skelmorlie, Saltcoats and the Kintyre Peninsula. The county of Bute is sparsely populated, with just over 10,000 people inhabiting an area of over 200 square miles (500 sq km). The county is a historic one, with Bute itself now being part of the Argyll and Bute council area, and Arran being in the North Ayrshire county.
