Why industry professionals make great recruitment consultants
Recruitment consultants can have a bad reputation (sometimes unfairly in our opinion!) and an office full of Wolf of Wall Street wannabees may be the first image that springs to mind. Yet the reality of what makes a great recruitment consultant is vastly different.
So what makes a great recruitment consultant?
In Aimee’s case, her process driven and methodical approach with great attention to detail has certainly laid the foundations for a successful recruitment career. The best consultants don’t take a scatter-gun approach to picking up new business. They keep up-to-speed with industry and market trends, planning ahead to reach their business goals.
Yet the real secret to success in most of our successful recruitment consultants is an industry background. This enables new recruits to start their career with a good level of inside knowledge, easily identify with both their clients’ & candidates’ issues and pain points, and bring a first-hand understanding of the roles they recruit.
That’s why at Cast UK we prefer to recruit consultants from industry, specifically from sectors & specialisms that we specialise in. It’s not to say that those without industry knowledge can’t be successful. They can, but we make sure they commit to in-depth industry training beforehand and are mentored by those with first-hand knowledge.
We also recruit candidates demonstrating similar values of professionalism and integrity. This ensures that both our clients and candidates are treated with the respect that they deserve.
A little more about Aimee
Aimee has been on her Cast UK journey for five years now, having moved into Supply Chain recruitment following three years working in the procurement function for NSG Pilkington. She made good use of her modern languages degree when negotiating with suppliers in their native Italian, French and Spanish.
These skills may not have come in handy in Bali, but that didn’t stop her having a great time!
The rewards of working in recruitment
We’ll leave Aimee to sum up her experience of the trip and the perks of a career in recruitment:
"We had a great time both realaxing on the beach and taking in the sights and sounds of Bali. I worked really hard for this and relaxing next to my own private pool in a private villa, was a blissful break from the highs & lows of working in recruitment.
It’s amazing the rewards I’ve had; Team & individual weekends away, VIP concert tickets, shopping vouchers, the list goes on. There’s a really positive atmosphere in the office, we have a lot of fun but there’s also a lot of hard work that goes on to help candidates secure their dream jobs. It’s a great feeling & the working environment at Cast UK reflects that.”

At Cast UK, the latest recruitment consultant to make it onto our Super High Flyers wall of fame (rewarded with a luxury two-week trip to Bali) is Aimee Gleave, and she is as far removed from the stereotype of a recruitment consultant as you can get.
