Logistics Analyst - Halifax

Logistics Analyst jobs

The logistics analyst will be in charge of setting up and/or running systems within a complex logistics operation to gather data on the complete process of movement and warehousing of goods and seeking efficiencies in them. The work could well require a good deal of travel to overseas or national terminals, depots and warehouses to see processes first hand and gather information on operation.

The gathered data will be used to work out means of creating more efficient processes and systems, often through the use of sophisticated computer systems, but also through the analyst’s instinct for the task. The analyst will be reporting regularly to senior management, and must be able to identify targets for efficiency makeovers and back up the plans with hard facts and figures.

Explaining actions and helping to implement major structural and operational changes will help to keep the logistics team informed and involved. The search for new efficiencies is a never-ending task, but with an analytical approach, it can be successfully done to the benefit of the company. Hence, good analysts are highly valued members of any logistics operation.

The skills required

Needless to say, an analyst must possess excellent analytical skills and be able to have an instinct for positive changes as well as the ability to perform complex calculations when planning out potential improvements. She or he must be able to keep on top of many lines of data collection; this information might be gleaned from delving into operational data or the analyst might oversee a team to gather information. Therefore good IT skills and man management are essential.

Logistics analysts are often required to travel, perhaps internationally, so a commitment to the company will be a demonstrable necessity.

Logistics Analyst Jobs in Halifax

A minister town in West Yorkshire, located to the south west of Bradford, Halifax is a good choice for those seeking Logistics Analyst opportunities.

From the 15th century, the town was an important location for the manufacture of wool and cloth. The textile industry continued to thrive through the 19th century, although most of the wealth that came to the town during this period was derived from cotton instead of wool.

In 1853, a building and investment society was formed in the city, which would later become known as the Halifax bank. It's now part of the Lloyds Banking Group and operates mainly from London.

Halifax has also been known for its confectionary production since the late 1890s when John Mackintosh and his wife started selling toffee from a shop in the town centre.

The business quickly expanded and resulted in a number of brands that are still popular today, such as Rolo, Toffee Crisp and Quality Street. Now owned by Nestle, which is based in York, a factory continues to operate in Halifax, churning out millions of tasty treats every year.

Today, the town's economy is mainly based in the retail and service sectors. A number of large business parks have been developed in the region - such as Dean Clough, which is located on the site of what was once the world's largest carpet factory. It provides workspace for SMEs and larger organisations ranging from IT and media companies, as well as financial services and healthcare facilities.
