HR Operations Manager Jobs
With the complex staffing needs of a busy company, the importance of the HR operations manager cannot be overstated. Their principal role is to make sure the strategic business plans of the board are fulfilled from the HR perspective, which means that they will have to make key decisions on recruitment, training and redundancies as necessary. This could be over a single department or site, or over a entire company with multiple locations.
The HR manager could be part of a team of managers under an HR director, and could be in charge of an HR team or working independently, depending on the size and structure of the company. Either way, they need to report to the board with their decisions regarding staffing needs, and may have to work out means of delivering the board’s aims within tight budgetary constraints to maintain profitability. Success is measured in terms of how the manager’s policies and decisions impact on the profitability and productivity of the company or department under their management.
The skills required
A background in HR is an essential element of this role, preferably to management level but many companies recognize that HR is often a one-person job in many small to medium companies and the skill-set picked up will be advanced despite the lack of a formal management title. If the experience is in the same industry as that of the position being filled, that will be a bonus, as different sectors have widely varying HR needs.
You also need to be an excellent communicator with a proven ability to take strategic instructions from the board and interpret them into actionable plans that bring measurable benefits to the company. Many companies require CIPD or equivalent work-based training qualifications as an entry condition, but others may be willing to take talented HR professionals through to such qualifications.
HR Operations Manager Jobs in East Kilbride
Before the Second World War, East Kilbride was a relatively small town several miles from the south of Glasgow. After the war, however, when the government was looking for sites to found new towns all over Britain, the village was chosen as one to house displaced Glaswegians and to ease the crowded city which had seen heavy bombing. Over time, the town grew and now there’s just a mile of countryside between East Kilbride’s north and Glasgow’s south, and on its east side it is starting to merge with Hamilton. The town is now treated as a suburb of Glasgow, and has a population of around 75,000.
The town has associations with more celebrities and musicians than it probably should for its size. The list of residents and ex-residents includes TV presenter Lorraine Kelly, MP Liam Fox, indie band the Jesus and Mary Chain, Aztec Camera singer Roddy Frame, footballer and manager Ally McCoist and Four Weddings actor John Hannah. George Orwell wrote Nineteen Eighty-four in the town when he was recovering from tuberculosis.
Although East Kilbride’s purpose is necessarily residential, there is some industry there, and the town has no fewer than six shopping malls. With its position so close to Glasgow, good transport links and industrial estates at its north west and south east sides, East Kilbride might be a good place to look for HR Operations Manager work in the Glasgow area.
